White Belt (9th Gup)

Traditional Meaning:

Traditionally the white belt symbolizes the barren earth’s willingness to accept the oak seed. It represents the innocence and open-mindedness of a new student; it is an empty cup that is both ready and willing to be filled. The white belt has no knowledge of Tae Kwon Do, but is willing to accept the seed of knowledge to come.

Our Interpretation:

Like the traditional meaning says, the white belt has no knowledge of the art of Tae Kwon Do. All that we expect of the white belts is they listen closely and follow our instructions. They must be willing to learn from their instructors, who have had many years of experience, and show their instructors the proper respect. White belt is an exciting belt with a lot of new material, and sometimes the amount of material presented to the student can be overwhelming. It is important that you stick with the instructors and trust that they will guide you along the path to the next belt.
